Our Roots

In response to escalating wildfire threats and their impact on water resources and communities, ARWC emerged as a catalyst for hope and action. Founded through the collaborative efforts of the Arkansas Basin Roundtable, ARWC exemplifies the power of unity and shared vision in tackling large-scale challenges.

At ARWC, we believe in the strength of community-driven solutions. By bringing together a diverse coalition of water managers and stakeholders, we address water-related issues from multiple perspectives, ensuring our strategies are inclusive, effective, and tailored to local needs. Supported by the Colorado Water Conservation Board, we are part of a larger movement toward sustainable watershed management, with local voices at the forefront of shaping the region’s future

ARWC serves Colorado’s Arkansas River Basin communities by addressing locally identified watershed issues for economic, ecological, and societal benefit.

Our Approach

Spanning 23,000 square miles of the Arkansas River Basin, from the heights of Leadville to the Colorado-Kansas border, ARWC’s work is as varied and dynamic as the landscape we serve. Our program initiatives include:

Watershed Health & Resiliency

Promoting healthy landscapes to safeguard watersheds and prevent wildfires.

Post-Fire Recovery

Restoring landscapes and waterways after wildfires and floods.

Partnerships & Collaborations

Strengthening our watershed through unified action and collaboration.

Our Team

Guided by the Arkansas Basin Roundtable members who serve as our Board of Directors, ARWC benefits from a robust network of local voices and expert guidance. Formed in 2017, ARWC hired its first executive director in 2019 and as of 2024 is set to significantly expand in the coming years.
