ARWC Secures Funding from CWCB to Launch Minnequa Diversion Dam Feasibility Study

Pueblo, CO (3/14/2025) – We are thrilled to officially announce that Arkansas River Watershed Collaborative (ARWC) has received funding from the Colorado Water Conservation Board’s (CWCB) Federal Technical Assistance Program to launch the Minnequa Diversion Dam Feasibility Study. This study will explore potential design solutions that could enhance fish passage, improve river safety, and expand recreational opportunities on the Arkansas River near Pueblo.

Right now, this dam is the last major barrier between Leadville and Pueblo Reservoir—over 160 river miles! This study will explore design options that could improve fish passage and recreational access while keeping the water diversions working for the Minnequa Canal.

We’re still in the early planning stages, and there’s a lot to figure out. But we’re working closely with local partners, water users, and community stakeholders to make sure we’re exploring solutions that work for everyone.

Big thanks to all of our funding and community partners who helped get this study off the ground. We’re looking forward to seeing where it takes us. Learn more about the potential ecological and community benefits, as well as next steps
